The Bird’s Eye chilli is well known in the region for its heat level, which sort of contradicts its tiny size. However, unlike other hot chillies, this chilli is accompanied by a unique appetizing aroma and a distinct flavor. Unripe chillies are green and when they ripe, they become orange or red. Green or red, they can be eaten raw along with the meals. Meghalaya meals are incomplete without bird's eye chillies on the side.
Bird’s eye chilli is low in calories and fat and high in vitamin C. Consumption of bird's eye chilli is good for digestion. They are a source of vitamin B-6 too. As they are consumed in very small quantity, the benefits also will be minimal. However, they can be added to your meals without a guilt of additional calories.
