Come with us as we walk you through our experiences in a field trip to Umlyngka Village near Shillon
A Zizira team of two visited Umlynka Village in the last week of April 2015. The village is very close to Shillong. Part of the Mylliem block of the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, it is one of 107 villages in that block, along with villages like Nongkseh and Lawsohtun. Fruit orchard full of Plum, Peach and Chestnut trees greeted the team. Surprise for them was the sight of wild Rasberry bushes with ready to eat fruits! Rasberries are not sold in the market and the team enjoyed the juicy fruits. It got them thinking too – can this be marketed, if properly packaged? They met a hardworking lady farmer who was tending to her farm all by herself. They also saw how many, with small farms, worked together as a collective! There was plenty to learn for the team. They would like to share all that they saw with you through these pictures. Do you want to know more? Or do you wish to buy organic produce grown in the the North East of India where organic farming is encouraged and largely followed? Or do you have a first hand report about the richness and uniqueness of agricultural produce of the North East of India that you want to share? Please Contact us! -
