Ing Makhir Ginger Powder
Meghalaya’s indigenous ginger or Sying Makhir as it is popularly known, this ginger variety is the most potent ginger you’ll ever come across in the local or national market. Its health benefits are so immense that it is revered as a healing herb which has been used in traditional medicine in Meghalaya for years. It is known to contain high levels of gingerol, a chemical compound responsible for the potency of ginger. A pinch of this ginger powder is enough to bring whole new levels of depth to your dishes!
Lakadong Turmeric Powder
Zizira’s trademark turmeric, the mighty high curcumin Lakadong turmeric is truly one of the best turmeric varieties in India, if not the best. This golden coloured spice which hails from a small village in Meghalaya, is known to have the highest percentage of curcumin, 7-9% (last tested in 2021).
If you haven’t heard of curcumin before, all you need to know is that it is the chemical compound responsible for turmeric’s various health properties, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial just to name a few.
Nadia Ginger Powder
Nadia ginger is a variety of ginger that is popularly grown in Meghalaya. It is the common ginger variety used in day-to-day cooking against its stronger counterpart Ing Makhir ginger which is mostly reserved for medicinal use. Nadia ginger has the perfect balance between its aromatic flavour and warm zesty taste. Like other ginger varieties, it has immense health benefits apart from its culinary use.
Perilla seeds are small, tiny seeds with a distinct nutty and aromatic flavour. These seeds are well loved in Meghalaya, and they feature extensively in chutneys and salads. Popularly known as Bhanjeera in Hindi, Perilla seeds are a rich source of nutrients, namely Omega 3 fatty acids and hence are great for boosting brain health. Perilla seeds are also rich in dietary fibre, vitamins, and minerals.
Lemongrass is a versatile aromatic herb that is grass-like and is mostly used in Asian cuisine. Its versatility makes it suitable for almost anything from stir-fried foods to cocktails to tea! As its name suggests, it has a wonderful refreshing lemony flavor and aroma accompanied with a whole lot of health benefits. These dried leaves have a subtle pale green colour with an intense citrusy aroma. In Meghalaya, lemongrass is enjoyed as a tea or as a flavour enhancer for soups and curries.
Szechuan pepper or Sichuan Pepper is an essential spice used in Asian cuisines. It is known for the mouth-tingling sensation it leaves and its distinct fragrant aroma, which resembles that of lavender. In Meghalaya, Szechuan pepper is used for its numbing sensation to balance the heat of chilli pepper. It is mostly ground or roasted before adding to dishes or infused with oil and salt for a savoury seasoning.
Bird’s Eye Chilli Powder from Mizoram
The Mizo Bird’s Eye Chilli is a variety of Bird’s Eye Chilli which grows in one of India's remotest districts along the Myanmar border in Siaha, Mizoram. It is small, about half an inch in length greenish in colour before ripening and becomes bright red when ripe. Mizo Bird's Eye Chillies have been accorded a Geographical Indication (GI) tag of their own. These chillies are moderately hot with a lovely mouthwatering flavour.
5 of the many benefits our bulk collection has to offer you:
- We source these rare spices which are indigenous to Meghalaya (except for Bird’s Eye Chilli which we procure from Mizoram) ourselves to ensure premium quality.
- We grind and process the spices in-house to ensure the best aroma, flavour, and colour is maintained.
- Our herbs and spices are fresh as they are unique and scarcely available. So, you can be confident that they haven’t spent weeks or months on a shelf.
- These herbs and spices are powerhouses when it comes to having antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties.
- And finally, these herbs and spices are naturally grown using age-old methods by farmers in Meghalaya. That means zero chemical fertilizers or additives. So, they can’t get any healthier than that!
