Did you know that the Bird’s Eye chilli variety found in India is the same as that brought over by the Spanish and Portuguese colonists and traders in the 16th or 17th century during the Columbian exchange? It is cultivated in most of the Northeast states of India, particularly in Mizoram and Meghalaya. In 2015 team of Zizira explorers visited Dulongnar village in Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya where almost all the 60 families grow Bird’s Eye Chillies!
