Curious, and as a lover of turmeric and its benefits, I decided to hop on the bandwagon and test the hype myself. Does turmeric really aid in weight loss? Wanting to shed a few kilograms too, I wanted to see if turmeric coffee really helps with weight loss and burning fat and this is what I found!

Coffee – More Than Just a Regular Beverage
Coffee is a drink that most of us enjoy. For some of us, starting our day without our usual cup of coffee seems unthinkable. Apart from its distinctive taste and delicious aroma, coffee is known to have a multitude of health benefits. From boosting your mood, reducing your risk of developing heart disease, to decreasing mental fatigue, coffee is more than just an ordinary beverage that we enjoy.
Can I add turmeric powder to my coffee?
We’re all familiar with turmeric milk or golden milk, but have you heard of turmeric coffee?
Believe it or not, turmeric coffee is actually a big thing these days and people are throwing recipes around like crazy.
These recipes combine the anti-inflammatory and fat-burning effects of coffee with the goodness of turmeric. Apart from burning fat, coffee is a known appetite suppressant, which means it’ll prevent you from snacking or overeating.

Yes. You read that right. Turmeric is not the only thing your can add to your cup of coffee. Adding ginger to your coffee means that you get a double dose of antioxidants since both ginger and coffee are known to be excellent sources of antioxidants.
Here are three recipes which combine these two spices with other ingredients which can be found in your home. These recipes vary in simplicity so it’s up to you to choose your go-to drink! Let’s read on how to make them!
Recipe 1: TURMERIC BLACK COFFEE RECIPE
This first recipe is what I started off with. Out of the three recipes I’ll be sharing, this one requires the least ingredients and effort.
- 1 tsp instant coffee powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp honey or any sweetener of your choice
- First, mix all of the dry ingredients thoroughly in a cup
- Then add 1 cup of hot water
- And finally, add the sweetener of your preference! Personally, I use honey as a sweetener.
And just like that, you have with you a healthy, energy-boosting drink that’ll reduce the calories and keep the cravings away!
This is my go-to drink in the morning when I’m in a rush. A great drink to start your day with, it’s simple, easy to make, and it requires just half a spoonful of turmeric to be added to your regular cup of black coffee. Simple, easy, and healthy!
Recipe 2: SPICED TURMERIC LATTE
This second recipe calls for more ingredients and it requires a bit more of effort but it’s totally worth it!
- 1 tsp instant coffee powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/4 tsp ginger powder
- One pinch black pepper powder
- 1 mug any milk of your choice
- Honey or any sweetener of your choice
- 1 drop vanilla essence
- First, put all of the dry ingredients in a cup
- Add a spoon of water to the dry ingredients and whisk till a paste forms
- Then add 1 mug of milk of your choice
- Once the milk is poured, mix in the honey, a drop of vanilla essence and a pinch of black pepper. Give everything a good mix and enjoy!
Perfect for cold, wintry days, this turmeric latte recipe is a wholesome, cozy drink to enjoy over some toast or snacks. I personally enjoy this latte with a side of toasted whole wheat garlic bread. Yum! The best part is you don’t have to go to Starbucks for this golden delight!
Recipe 3: SPICED TURMERIC BLACK COFFEE
This final recipe requires the most ingredients, but it also turns out to be my favourite!
2 cups freshly brewed coffee
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp turmeric powder
- 1 drop vanilla essence
- Honey as per your desired quantity
- 1 pinch black pepper
Add all the dry ingredients into a blender including the amount of honey that you’d like.
- Pour in the hot freshly brewed coffee
- Blend for 30 seconds
- Serve into cups and consume immediately
Cinnamon is high in fibre; hence it enhances the weight loss effects of this drink. It also adds a nice flavour especially when coupled with the mellow flavour of coconut. This drink is perfect for a boost of energy in the morning if you have the time to make it or as a relaxing drink to pep you up with in the evening. The spices give it a nice aromatic flavour that you wouldn’t find in your regular cup of coffee. The piperine in black pepper increases the absorption of curcumin.
Many of you might be thinking, “Can I really add turmeric to my coffee? Does turmeric coffee taste good?” Turmeric in your coffee might sound odd at first, but I can swear that it tastes great, even adding a rich flavour to your coffee!
I usually have my turmeric coffee with my breakfast or later in the evening. It’s my favourite pick-me-up. I tend to indulge in carbohydrate-rich snacks in the evening (doughnuts, fried food, and such) which are the main culprits for weight gain.
I can testify that turmeric coffee not only boosts my mood and energy levels but also stops me from snacking, which has helped me shed some kilos significantly. Before I started my weight loss journey, turmeric milk was my go-to drink, but it’s now been replaced by these fat-burning turmeric coffee recipes!
