Ingredients required:

  • ½ cup of freshly grated horseradish.
  • ½ cup freshly grated ginger.
  • ½ tablespoon turmeric powder.
  • ½ teaspoon of chilli powder.
  • 7 cloves of garlic chopped.
  • 1 onion chopped.
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary leaves.
  • 1 teaspoon honey.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
  • ½ tablespoon lemon zest.
  • Apple cider vinegar.

Directions:

  1. Take a quarter-sized glass container and add horseradish, ginger, garlic, onion, rosemary, turmeric powder, chilli powder, cinnamon and lemon into it.
  2. Now pour the apple cider vinegar into the container until all the ingredients are fully covered and the vinegar reaches the brim of the glass container.
  3. Cover the glass container to prevent the ingredients from getting spoiled. Note: Use a plastic lid.
  4. Shake the jar and mix all the ingredients. Store in cool dark place for 4-5 weeks. You can shake the jar every once in a while.
  5. After a month of storage, use a mesh strainer to strain out the liquid juice and you can dispose of all the solid ingredients.
  6. Add honey as a natural sweetener. Taste your turmeric fire cider and add more honey if you’d like.
  7. Store in sealed container in a refrigerator. Drink a ½ cup daily when needed.

Here is another simple pureed recipe that you can try when you're feeling the chills with the winter season approaching. A mildly spiced soup that you can try at home and it takes minimum time to prepare.

Ingredients required (5 servings):

  • 2 tablespoon olive oil.
  • 2 onion thinly sliced.
  • ½ teaspoon salt.
  • 5 garlic cloves minced.
  • 1 cauliflower trimmed and cut.
  • 2 cups vegetable broth.
  • ½ teaspoon coriander powder.
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric.
  • 1 cup coconut milk.

Note: You can use ½ teaspoon of ground black pepper for seasoning. You can add roasted cashew, fresh parsley and red pepper flakes as garnish.

Directions:

  1. Start by heating the pot over medium heat. Add the olive oil to it and let it simmer.
  2. Add the onions and ¼ salt and cook them until the onion turns soft and translucent (8 minutes)
  3. Reduce the heat to low and add the garlic cloves and cook it further for an additional 2 minutes.
  4. Add the cauliflower, vegetable broth, coriander, turmeric and the rest of the salt.
  5. Increase the heat to medium-high, after 15-20 minutes reduce the heat to low and allow it to simmer. You can simmer until the cauliflower is tender.
  6. Now you can puree the soup in a blender and put it back into the cooking pot. Add the coconut milk and stir. Warm the soup in low heat and add pepper, salt or spices to taste if needed.
  7. Serve it warm. Garnish with roasted cashews, or sprinkle pepper flakes and fresh parsley.
